RedactChat works silently in the background. When you try to upload a document to a supported AI platform, the extension automatically pauses the upload and presents the sanitization panel. This proactive approach ensures you never accidentally send a file containing sensitive information without reviewing it first.

Powerful Sanitization Modes

You have complete control over how your data is handled. Choose the method that best fits your needs, and see the changes reflected in a live preview before you confirm.

  • Redact: The most secure option. It replaces sensitive information with solid blocks (e.g., ████████), making it completely unreadable.
  • Tokenize: Preserves context for the AI by replacing data with descriptive tokens (e.g., an email becomes [EMAIL_1]). This is useful when you need the AI to understand that a piece of information was there, without revealing what it was.
  • Delete: Completely removes the sensitive data from the text, leaving no trace it was ever there.
  • None: Allows you to bypass sanitization for a specific file if you've determined it's safe to upload as-is.
